Diary Of A Librarian

Am I Afraid?

Oh, bother I’m writing on the job again.

Recently I read this amazing post about pride and I thought, “Why don’t I do a post about fear.” So here I am.

Fear

An unpleasant feeling. Sometimes it can be useful, but most often it is debilitating. The Bible has a lot to say about fear and being afraid.

The first to pop into mind is Psalm 56:3 as it is M’s favorite verse.

Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You.

It’s a pretty classic Psalm of David. It tells us that David was able to put his fear on YHWH

1 John 4:18 is another that comes swiftly to mind.

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

Don’t you want perfect love. We are not meant to be afraid.

Next up is a verse I don’t know why it comes to mind. I have memorized it, perhaps that is why. Deuteronomy 6:13

Fear the LORD your God, serve him only and take your oaths in his name.

Suddenly we are still talking about fear, but now it is different. We are to fear God.

How????

Does Deuteronomy 11:1 give us a hint.

You shall therefore love the Lord your God and keep his charge, his statutes, his rules, and his commandments always

I think it does, for it brings us back to the subject of love.

So am I afraid?

No.

Do I fear?

I hope so.

What about you?
