The Families of Clothes

As I get closer to finally being able to start selling my handmade clothes, I am reminded that A suggested that I have more than just basic descriptions. She suggested that I write about who would wear them and tell stories about their past.

So I’ve been at work coming up with “families” for the different types of clothes. I want to make it so you can tell what it is by its name.

So far I have Princess Shorts.

I also have Sister Skirts.

There will be Everyday Elegance Dresses.

I’m pondering using the phrase “it’s a split” for culottes, split skirts, and pants.

I suppose I could use Basic Blice for the shirts. Sorry for the awful language joke.

And if all else fails Mister E Man’s might work.

All this really says is. My cold is mostly gone, so I don’t feel bad about sewing. Most of the fuss that goes into getting a Etsy account is out of the way. I love backstories and I also enjoy puns.

I’m looking forward to starting the Etsy shop, I will sell only things made from found fabrics on there. I hope to earn at least enough money for my best friend and I to be able to visit Israel.

“At The Abyss”

This book is long. Maybe I think that because we read it out loud, but it took forever to finish. All gripes about the length aside, I really enjoyed it.

I learnt so much history from this book. It talked about how the cold war started and who were the first spies. I was totally shocked to learn when the Berlin Wall went up. I don’t know, but I just had never really heard the year for that event. Maybe I’ve always glossed over it, but……

It is written by the Former Secretary of the Air Force, he started being in the political circles by the end of the tales.

In each chapters it tells the full story of an event or problem, then the next chapter will talk about something else, so it is really hard to understand how the events interacted with each other.

I would say, this is probably a book only history buffs are going to be really interested, because it is not a single person’s story, but a full history of the Cold War.

This is how I know so much history, 2018 MDIS American History class.

A Song, A Problem

This past spring while I was in India, I went to a youth group Praise and Worship night. At one point during the evening they started a new song, for the first thirty seconds I enjoyed it. Then I realized I heard heard all the lyrics in the song a bunch of times. The lyrics weren’t bad, they were only five words long.

Matthew 6:7 (KJV)

But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

I froze and counted the lyrics run through six more times. I crossed my arms, stood perfectly still waiting for the song to end. After about forty five seconds of waiting a girl who was very much into the song noticed me. She came over and asked

“Can I pray for you?” I gave the automatic, good Christian, not really thinking about it, “Yes”. Truth be told I had been feeling the pressure of the Holy Spirit to go and pray for the others there, but… Fun Fact we share the same name.

So she prayed for me. It was only later that I began to really think about it and wonder if I should have maybe said no.

But I couldn’t have said no, if there is one thing you don’t do in youth group it’s to say no to an offer of prayer.

It was an awkward few minutes, but they really have made me think. What would you do?

Garlic Deer

Sorry this is not a recipe, this is me celebrating the fact that we recently found our home grown garlic and that our neighbor gave us a deer.

Garlic grows wild in our area, so we had a good crop that we pulled for crackers, soups, and stir fries. Having cleaned them, we put them in a box in the garden shed.

Then tragedy struck we went out to bring them in because it was supposed to be really cold and they weren’t there. The box still was there, but it was mostly empty.

The other day B was looking for a tool, when he notice a box with leaves on top, he shoved the leaves aside and there was some of the garlic. The box next to it had the same deal. Hip, hip hurray!!

This weekend our across the street neighbor told us that he was going deer hunting and if he got more than one deer he would give us the extra.DSC_1247

I forgot to go out and get pictures while it was was still a whole deer so you only get butchered deer pictures.

It was only a small deer, a doe, but that is just as well because our freezers are rather full.

For The Guys Out There

I’m working on opening a custom clothes shop, it’s taking awhile because, reasons, a cold, and family. Recently however I’ve been differently inspired. Inspiration, even if at the time I’m not able to do much with it, is what encourages me to keep working.

Recently P spent the weekend with one of our cousins family. He told them of my plans and they were super encouraging. Yay! K C had a couple of suggestions for what I could do for the guys, this was great. I’ve always thought, “I should have something for the guys to wear too”, but guys clothes are boring. What makes it harder is that most guys seem to like boring clothes.

He suggested pants with pockets for flashlights and knives. Knives would be very interesting to try to do because they come in so many shapes and sizes, but most flashlights are small enough to be held in one hand… He also suggested matching father and son outfits, now admittedly I’m a young female so I’m probably not the best guesser at what most fathers would like for them and their sons to wear, but I’ve a few ideas.

Now I just wish that I could find a ton of others willing to sew my ideas so I can start selling all of them soon.
